Nike React Shoes

Looking for a shoe that checks the boxes of speed, agility and technology? You’ve come to the right place. Meet the Nike React running shoes. Taking a minimalist approach, the Nike brand pays homage to the simplicity of running by employing materials like the proprietary React foam technology.

History of the Foam

For decades, Nike put in the time, effort and research to find lighter and more comfortable materials that would give runners real results mile after mile. In 2008, brand designers began using Lunarlon — a foam and elastic rubber combination — in running shoes. This was the first step toward a foam foundation. And while the technology hit all the marks in terms of comfort, Lunarlon ultimately lacked the springy energy return seen by other brands’ running shoes. Enter Nike React foam, which first made its entrance in basketball shoes like the Hyperdunk in 2017.

Soft and springy, squishy and stable are the adjectives Nike uses to describe the feel of the React foam. While the technology got the thumbs up from basketball players, Nike began looking at how it could sustainably incorporate the same technology into running shoes. Nike researchers and designers began studying the feet and footfalls of thousands of runners before creating a foam foundation for the React line of shoes. Researchers studied everything from foot pressure points to foam durability. Runners rose to the challenge, pounding the pavement for more than 17,000 miles while wearing React shoes in pursuit of a better running sneaker.

React Styles

Whether you crave a retro-style sneaker with updated materials like the Presto or an ultra-modern shoe silhouette like the Phantom, you’ll be able to spot a pair of Nike React shoes by the generous midsole carved out of the React foam. Since its introduction, Nike has applied this technology to many of its shoe models, including the Air Max 270 React, Infinity Run Flyknit, the React Vision and the React Presto. The incredibly durable React foam springs into action every step of the way and holds its shape and cushioning over the miles for a fun, energy-returning ride.
