Brooks Running is one of the biggest names in the technical running industry, and for good reason. The athletic apparel and footwear brand has offered runners from walkathon-ers to triathlon champs expertly engineered, quality-crafted and comfortable products since 1914.
While Hibbett | City Gear has only carried Brooks running sneakers in the past, this month we are adding new Brooks Running apparel to our assortment, and to help us kick things off, Brooks Gurus are taking over our Instagram!
What’s a Guru you ask? Well, a Guru is a Brooks product expert that lives and breathes Run Happy. They know the in’s and out’s of Brooks gear and the technology behind it!
Brooks Gurus Josh Browning and Shannon Simpson will be answering your questions about all things Brooks, running, training and more on February 25 and 26. Tune in to @hibbettsports on Instagram to be part of the action, and submit a question yourself for a chance to win a full toe-to-head Brooks look and $250 from Hibbett | City Gear!
“My name is Josh Browning, and I cover the Gulf Coast territory (Louisiana, Mississippi, and the panhandle of Florida) for Brooks running as a guru. If you would have asked me if I would be working for a running brand five years ago, I would have said you were crazy.
However, I came to love running when I moved to New Orleans for grad school and decided to finally tackle the goal of completing a marathon, which I did at the Rock’n’roll New Orleans marathon in 2013. I loved the challenge that running provided for me and went on to try triathlon and completed two full-Ironman distance races.
In 2015, I started working at a local running store here in New Orleans and really enjoyed fitting people for running shoes so that they could enjoy the run in the same way that I did. I eventually found my way to Brooks as a guru in 2018.
At Brooks, we believe a run can change a day, a life, and even the world, and committing to run that marathon back in 2013 really did change a lot for me, even a career path!”
“Hi, I’m Shannon the Brooks Guru based in Dallas, TX. My territory spans across North Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Although I was fairly good at running in middle school, my top preference for sports was basketball.
After completing a season of cross country and basketball during my freshman year of high school, I decided I no longer wanted to run, but that somehow changed when my cross country coach continued to call my house asking me to come out for track.
After running my best mile time my coach pulled me into the stands and gave me a talk that I will never forget. Plain and simple he said I could make the varsity team for cross country, if I put in the work.
Being the competitor I am, this somehow fueled a motivation within me to try my hardest. Running ultimately became my favorite sport, so much that I ended up running in college, as well. Today I enjoy sharing my passion for the sport and love seeing others challenge themselves to conquer their goals.”
