As a third-year player, Ja Morant is another up-and-comer, much like Jayson Tatum, making plenty of waves in the NBA. A longtime Nike fan, the Memphis Grizzlies point guard brings plenty of confident swagger to the game, and he is one of a spate of recent players to get his own signature sneak with the Swoosh. While signed as a Nike athlete in 2019, the brand has been mum as to the exact deets of a Ja Morant shoe release.
Wondering what shoes Ja Morant wears in the meantime? While we all wait for the chance to cop a pair of Ja Morant signature sneaks, here are five of our favorite kicks that have graced Morant’s feet over the course of his NBA career.
Gold Medal Mamba
Want to see a legit Kobe sneaker collection? Look no farther than Ja’s feet. A huge fan of Black Mamba (may he rest in peace), Ja Morant really knocked it out of the park this past season with the Nike Kobe 6 Protro in a player-exclusive colorway. The upper got a gold and black snakeskin makeover with hits of aqua incorporated throughout. Oh, and the Grizzlies beat the Spurs in that February 28 game.
Clawing His Way to the NBA
In 2020, this rookie debuted a brand-new sneaker from Nike. The Adapt BB 2.0 includes a self-lacing system that allows you to program your preferred settings and customize the feel via an app. One of the best colorways designed by shoe customizer Sierato: a pair of Grizzlies colorway kicks complete with claw marks, Grizzlies logo and Ja’s number.
Elite Feet
An ankle sprain propelled Ja to declare a high tops-only rule for the remainder of the 2020–2021 season. To that end, he wore a pair of Nike Kobe 9 Elite kicks on the court. His first pair of high tops had a bright red colorway with a high cut, ankle-hugging collar. The shoe was also the first in the Nike Basketball lineup to employ Flyknit material.
Freak on the Court
During the 2019–2020 season, Ja sported a pair of the Giannis Antetokounmpo kicks. One of the pairs he wore: the Zoom Freak 1s in the “Roots” colorway — a shoe brimming with soulful colors and exaggerated features that offer the wearer precise multidirectional traction and exceptional speed.
Makings of an All-Star
What did Ja have on his feet during the All-Star Game? None other than the Nike Air Zoom GT Run. This ultralight shoe comes packed with cushioning while keeping Ja low to the ground. The All-Star colorway featured a light aqua with a pink ombre midsole and a pink planetary pattern along the upper’s mesh.
Does Ja Morant have a signature shoe? The short answer is: not yet, but it’s coming … eventually. But keep watching Ja’s explosive ascent to the top as this young star forges his own path in the NBA.
