The Dunk itself didn’t come about until 1985, thanks to designer Peter Moore’s enterprising adaptation of several popular silhouettes. Made for collegiate athletes and fans, the Dunks have retained their star status among modern-day sneakerheads.
And the “Since ’72” colorway doesn’t disappoint either. Sail-colored canvas swaths the shoe’s upper, complete with tan overlays composing the lacing system and running along the toe, heel and quarter panels. The Sail midsole gives way to a darker brown gum outsole, complete with its concentric-circle pivot pattern. The muted green of Pacific Moss appears at the leather Swooshes, mesh sockliner and Nike Air branding on the tongue tag. This soothing tone speaks to the lush, wet forests of the Pacific Northwest, fitting for a company based out of Beaverton, Oregon. Nike also gets embroidered in white along the ankle, and the Pacific Moss insoles include “Since ’72” branding.
Textured materials, generations of innovation and a comforting colorway perfectly espouse a cool, retro 1970s look and feel. Stay tuned for your chance to get a pair of the men’s Nike Dunk Low “Since ’72” sneakers on April 1.
