The latest PUMA x LAMELO BALL LaFrance’ collaboration is a slick, bold and elevated offering with oversized Y2K features. For instance, the silhouette is very much in line with shoes of the early 2000s, but it takes on an even more exaggerated design, from its oversized heel piece to its Y2K street graphics on pods along the platform-style midsole.
An homage to the tech era, the “Black Chrome” edition features a black tumbled leather upper with an oversized, debossed No. 1 stamped on the toebox. Large, oval-shaped black shapes mimic the midsole design while serving as the lacing system for the sneaker’s thick, oversized laces.
The “Black Chrome” design includes LaFrance’ branding printed on the laces in a Diplomat font. This design decision mimics a tattoo Ball got prior to the 2023-’24 NBA season — a red “LF” on the left side of his neck. You’ll find the “LF” in the same font on the shoe’s tongue. The midsole also gets various LaMelo callouts, from “Heem,” “01 of One” and “Not From Here” phrases to hearts and spaceship patterns. A textured outsole surface not only offers some serious grip by way of bubble-like traction pattern, but it also features “LaFrance’” spelled out in rubber.
