Why Carry Backpacks?

Backpacks carry the day's things to work, school or practice and keep your hands free. Among all the bags you can carry, a good backpack mixes fashion and function: it spreads the load across both shoulders and keeps your things organized. Store everything from laptops and clothing to cell phones and athletic gear, wherever you're headed.

What Can You Find in the Backpack Range?

The selection comes in several shapes and closures, and the right one depends on what you carry most and where you take it.

• Everyday and school bags: A traditional zip closure, a large main compartment and padded straps for daily loads of books and supplies, from classic JanSport designs to The North Face packs for school and commuting.
• Training bags: Smaller compartments for a wallet, keys and phone, side pockets for water bottles and a spacious main section for athletic gear.
• Mini packs: A compact bag that works as a purse or as a small space for on-the-go essentials, in a wide range of colors and styles so you can match your outfit, or your mood.
• Rope bags: A fashion-forward alternative to the classic zip closure, found in the Nike lineup next to its zip-closure packs.
• Clear backpack designs: See-through builds for schools, stadiums and venues with clear-bag policies. Check each venue's size limits and bag rules before you go, since a clear bag is not automatically allowed.
• Travel packs: Some sizes fit under an airplane seat or in an overhead bin, so you can stow and go.

Prints set bags apart too, from the creative, personality-filled designs of adidas to the bold graphics and edgy look of Sprayground.

How to Pick the Right Backpack

Start with what goes inside, then narrow the field by layout, comfort and fabric.

• Capacity: List the things you carry every day, then pick a bag with room for all of it plus a little extra, so the zipper closes easily.
• Organization: A padded laptop sleeve keeps a computer apart from books and gear, while small front and side pockets keep keys, a phone and a water bottle easy to reach. Go for more compartments when you carry many small items, and a single large section when you haul bulky gear.
• Comfort: Padded straps spread the weight of a loaded bag so it presses instead of digging in, and a padded back panel keeps hard objects off your spine. Wider, thicker straps suit heavy daily loads.
• Material: A polyester shell resists scuffs, dries fast and wipes clean, which suits bags that go from the classroom to the field. Reach for a bold print or color when style matters as much as storage.

Which Backpacks Work Best for School, Training and Travel?

The same bag rarely does every job well, so match the pack to the main way you'll use it.

For school, everyday bags, including Jordan styles with signature looks, are made for school supplies and textbooks. Enough pockets keep pencils, chargers and snacks apart, and when gym clothes or practice gear come along too, lighter sack packs and totes add space without a second full-size bag.

For training, a training pack keeps shoes, a towel and a bottle organized for practice, while full uniforms and equipment call for larger sport bags or duffels.

For travel, a bag sized for the overhead bin or the space under the seat keeps essentials close on a trip, and for quick errands a hands-free crossbody bag holds just the basics.
