Sneakerhead Guide to NBA Player Sneaker Deals

Dec 5, 2025

NBA players’ sneaker deals get attention, but their influence goes beyond the court. The shoes they wear on and off it set trends for everyday fashion sneakers, not just performance models.

Signature Deals That Shift the Culture

Not all NBA players with sneaker deals have signature shoes. Signatures like Jordan shoes are created in collaboration with (or sometimes designed by) a particular athlete. The shoe will carry the athlete's name and its features will connect to the player's personality and style.

Some players sign signature shoe deals. Others get player exclusives — an existing shoe customized for a particular player.

For example, WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark has signed with Nike for a signature shoe line. But she has also been using and promoting player-exclusive Kobe sneakers.

Players can also get player-exclusive versions of their own signature shoes. For example, A'ja Wilson recently showcased an unreleased pair of "Peach Jam" A'Ones, assumed to be her own player-exclusive colorway of her signature shoe.

On the other hand, a star like James Harden represents the quintessential signature athlete, having a long-running partnership with Adidas that has resulted in a deep line of shoes, such as the Harden Vol. 9. These sneakers are explicitly designed to support his unique, explosive style of play, featuring custom cushioning and traction patterns tailored for his famous step-back move.

How many players in the NBA have a sneaker deal? Currently, around 30 NBA players have signature shoe deals. You'll see several more with player exclusives, or even NBA players with Chinese sneaker deals and other arrangements to promote shoes in international markets.

Shaping Style Beyond the Shoes

Stars aren't made on talent alone. The athletes most likely to get sneaker deals are charismatic and entertaining. When an athlete has style and influence, their shoe deals can spark fashion trends.

In addition to his Nike signature shoe line, LeBron James has collaborated with designers like Thom Browne and brands like Hennessy, and he just launched a line of signature watches with Richard Mille. Dwyane Wade has teamed up with Versace to promote sunglasses, and Klay Thompson has a signature line of leather bags with Prime Society.

Off-Court Style That Drives Trends

There was a time when "NBA off-court style" meant Magic Johnson had turned up for an event wearing a fur coat. Today's NBA stars have opportunities to influence with their off-court style that their predecessors could never have imagined. Tunnel fits — the outfits players are seen wearing when they walk into the stadium before a game — are now a major source of inspiration for streetwear trends.

High fashion brands like Louis Vuitton and Prada have deals with influential stars (LeBron loves LV; Caitlin Clark is a huge Prada fan) who like to wear their clothes in the tunnel. Social posts spread the word and new trends are born.

The likes of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jayson Tatum have such distinct personal styles that some of their devoted fans would probably be surprised to learn they play basketball. You'll find as many images online of their fashion choices as of their on-court action.
