Hibbett and City Gear are nothing without the communities we serve, that's why this AAPI month, we are honoring our customers and associates from the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities with a few featured stories that highlight the beauty of their cultures and storied heritage. Meet Hibbett store manager, Katrina Capitulo!
Katrina:My name is Katrina Capitulo, and I'm a Store Manager at Hibbett! I've been with the company for a year and a half. Outside of work here, I am a nail tech, and I enjoy spending time hanging out with my family.
Katrina:I am a first generation Filipino-American. My parents came to the US from the Philippines in the 80's, which is what makes me part of the AAPI community.
Katrina Growing up Filipino, I learned at a very young age that cooking and eating good food is a way to bring people together.
This impacted my life because I view food as a way of bonding with others. I would watch my mom and grandma make authentic Filipino food, learning how to make them so I can pass recipes down for generations to come.
Also, the meaning of family and unity is something that my heritage put emphasis on growing up, so I value good company because of it. We also love our karaoke!
Katrina:Because I have a big family, we celebrate our heritage by getting together and eating good food. We prepare Filipino foods like sinigang, adobo, spaghetti, and lumpia. We often bring out the karaoke machine and sing songs that are classics.
Katrina: I share my culture with others by introducing them to Filipino food and bringing them to family parties so they can experience what it's like to be a part of my culture.
Katrina:I don't celebrate AAPI month specifically, but I take pride in my heritage daily.
Katrina: I think it’s important to highlight the AAPI community during this month because it consists of groups of people that have a beautiful culture that not many know too much about. It’s also a way to share our culture with the rest of the world.
