It’s Only Basketball, but for many, its self-expression, an outlet from what plagues them off the court, an opportunity for a brighter future. It’s Only Basketball. Join Hibbett and Nike as we showcase three of our Sole Schools this season to celebrate their hard work, dedication to the game and each other.
With an over thirty-year career at Booker T Washington coming to an end, the profound effect that he has made on this women’s program spans generations.
We are proud to stand by the Booker T. Washington Lions in this bittersweet time of letting go of such an incredible past and embracing the future that is to come.
Their commitment to exceptional performance in the classroom, on the court and in the real world, separates the Provine High Rams from the fray. Their culture, responsibility and commitment to their team is molding their future success in life.
The Wenonah Dragons men’s and women’s basketball program have won a combined fifteen state championships.
Under the guidance of Coach Lane and Coach Moore, these athletes embody the spirit, on and off the court, that make a team special with an unbreakable bond.
For some, only basketball helps them stay strong for a mother who is fighting cancer; provides comfort following the loss of a brother; helps them put their state on the map; offers support and family.
"I'll be lost without this team," one women's basketball player said. "We've been through so much together and we just built a bond."
Basketball also prepares players for success after high school.
"We focus on basketball but we groom these men to be successful in society" - Coach Washington, Head Coach of Provine High School Men's Basketball Team.
As Sole Schools, Alabama's Wenonah High School, Jackson Mississippi's Provine High School, and Louisiana's Booker T. Washington High School are among 101 schools that will receive a yearly financial donation and the opportunity for interested students to be mentored by local store management staff. Sole School also opens the door for employment within these stores during and after they graduate.
Being your small town sneaker shop is about more than having a great stock of kicks to cop on Saturday mornings. It's about fostering the sneakerhead culture and a sports-inspired lifestyle within the communities we serve. That's why City Gear started Sole School, a community giveback program through which local stores could connect with and provide support to underserved schools and athletic programs in their neighborhoods.
