New year, new Jordans. And the Jumpman brand is coming in hot — per usual — with a spate of coveted new colorways and familiar silhouettes. 

The latest is the Air Jordan 2 Retro, set to release in a “Python” color scheme, featuring white and black with Fire Red, Sail and Cement Grey accents. This launch includes toddler, preschool, grade school and men’s sizes, and the sneakers will be available January 20 at Hibbett | City Gear.

Designed by Nike’s Bruce Kilgore and Peter Moore, the AJ 2 officially hit shelves in 1987 (though MJ sported them the summer prior). This shoe aimed for luxury meets performance, and its Italian leather, minimal branding (no Swoosh!) and faux lizard details exude sophistication. 

Upon its conception, the new, thicker leather and midsole — a departure from the Air Jordan 1 — affected court feel, and Jordan famously almost left Nike due to performance concerns. Fortunately, His Airness acquiesced and wore them on court during a record-breaking season, solidifying the shoe’s status in the sneakersphere. 

The “Python” rendition starts with an all-over white leather base, featuring neat lines of perforations that outline the toe and midfoot. A grey-and-white textured python pattern forms the overlays along the sides, which anchor the lacing system and provide a locked-in feel. The Air Jordan Wings logo appears on the tongue in black, tying together the interior black padding and impactful black heel. A Sail-colored midsole gives the shoe a vintage aesthetic, with Sail accents on the heel and eyelets as well. Red Nike embroidery finishes off the heel, while Cement Grey and black dress the outsole, rounding out the “Python” color scheme.
