The second of iconic Nike designer Tinker Hatfield's designs, the Air Jordan 4 has been in pop culture's consciousness since 1989 and is considered one of the best Nike Air Jordans. Its eye-catching design is mid-top height like the Air Jordan 3s, but it stands on its own with its triangular support wings over the mesh paneling. Jordan himself wore the Air Jordan 4s for "the Shot" he put over Craig Ehlo in a 1989 game against the Cavs, and it featured prominently in Spike Lee's film Do the Right Thing.
As the newest member of the Air Jordan 4 family, the Air Jordan 4 Rare Air takes a modern interpretation of a classic, blending nostalgia with luxury materials. In lieu of the OG design's leather, the black nubuck upper is velvety like suede but more durable than the original material. The colorways of the original AJ4s are echoed in the wolf grey toe caps, true blue rear pulls and liners, fire red forefoot eyelets, and outsole tread. Removable Velcro tongue patches call back to the OG design, revealing "Jordan Rare Air" beneath. It has also been confirmed that 2% of the pairs will feature gold branding instead. As yet another nod to the original packaging, the Jordan 4 Rare Air 2025 release will come in a Jordan face box, now blacked out.
Generally, a man's Air Jordan 4 Rare Air will fit true to size, depending on the shape of the wearer's feet. For those with wider feet, the toe box can feel tighter than other sneakers, so it might be best to go up half a size. For sizing the Nike Air Jordan 4 for kids, going up or down a half size—depending on whether they have narrower or wider feet—is a good option for the best fit. The Nike Air Jordan 4s are great grade school kids' shoes with their thick and durable soles that will survive any rough playing.
The Rare Air Jordan 4 release date will be July 26, 2025. Available at select Jordan Brand retailers and at Nike, in-store or online, they will retail for $225 USD. Make sure you have your Hibbett app downloaded and updated so you can enter any raffles or early access events that come up!

For fans of the original high-top look, the Jordan 1 Retro High OG in "Pollen" colorway will launch in men's and kids' sizes this August. Mid-top wearers will have to decide where to land on the Jordan 1 mid vs. high-top debate. Fans of the low-top Air Jordan look should stick with the Jordan 1 Lows.
