Women are currently dominating the sports world, and all eyes are turned toward them. The latest sneaker from Kevin Durant’s signature Nike Basketball line spotlights WNBA star Jonquel Jones, who wore her special-edition sneakers at this year’s WNBA All-Star Weekend.

The Nike KD 17 PE “Bahamas” officially drops August 29 in a medley of tropical tones that include Vapor Green, Coral, Green Frost and Dusty Cactus. This island colorway pays homage to Joneses’ Bahamian background and will be available in women’s sizes.

The women’s basketball shoes have a lightweight upper that’ll keep your feet as cool as those breezy days on the beach, whether you’re in the heat of the game or cooling down after a long practice. Coupled with plush padding and extra heel cushioning, the midsole’s Zoom Air unit gives you laidback comfort combined with springy pops of energy. Arch support and a multi-bladed topographical rubber outsole provide stability and traction.

Jonquel Jones adds something special to this player edition. The power forward/center for the NY Liberty is a WNBA MVP who’s racked up accolades for nearly a decade now. And while she’s a powerhouse on the paint, she’s also a major celeb in her home country of Grand Bahama, the northernmost Bahamian island.

With its sandy beaches, crystalline waters and lush flora, it’s no secret as to why Grand Bahama is a tourism mecca. The “Bahamas” colorway plays on those sandy shores, fragrant island flowers and the colors of sea and sky.

With its wave-like pattern, the turquoise upper mimics the depth of the Caribbean Sea. Thermoplastic overlays add structure to the shoe’s sides, emphasizing the undulation of waves in motion. Cool pastel green dresses the side Swooshes, midsole and parts of the lacing system, while coral pink laces emulate the sweet-smelling frangipani blossoms. A streak of Vapor Green outlines the sides of the shoe, nodding to the vibrancy of island culture. The same cerulean-sea upper hue also dresses the rubber outsole.

KD branding sits on the tongue in a tonal blue-green, while a debossed map of the Bahamas appears in place of any obvious branding on the back.
