Nov 20, 2024

In early 2023, Hibbett and Nike donated $25,000 to Kayneta Skate Park on behalf of Indigenous skateboarder, model and designer Naiomi Glasses during National Go Skate(boarding) Day celebrations. Renovations funded by the donation were unveiled earlier this month.

In her childhood, Naiomi Glasses faced the harsh reality of bullying, finding solace in the world of skateboarding -- a place where she could decompress and be herself. Her passion was unwavering, and she eagerly embraced every opportunity to skate, fostering a profound connection with her surroundings.

Naiomi found fame on social media in 2020 after a video of her skateboarding reached 1.4 million organic views.

Today, Naiomi fearlessly takes to the skateboard, donning vibrant skirts and traditional Diné garb. Her choice to skate in her own unique style reflects her growing confidence and self-assured femininity. Breaking free from societal norms, she boldly shows the world that skateboarding knows no boundaries.

Hibbett and Nike, in a continued effort to give back to our communities, partnered with Naomii last June to fund the installation of lights at Kayenta Skate Park so that boarders could utilize the facilities after dark, when temperatures in Arizona were cooler.

In an article published by the Navajo Hopi Observer, Kayenta Skate Park was recognized as a vital recreational spot for the community, serving as a gathering place for young enthusiasts.

The $25,000 donation made by Hibbett and Nike "not only demonstrates their commitment to empowering Native American youth but also strengthens the support for Glasses’ efforts to promote skateboarding and combat bullying."

The community hosted a Light Up the Skate Park Celebration on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 to officially unveil the renovations and honor Naiomi for her advocacy.
