If you ask James “The Beard” Harden what the future of basketball sneakers will look like, he’ll tell you the future looks like the adidas Harden Vol. 5 Futurenatural “Core Black” mens’ and grade school performance shoe launching March 26.
adidas designer Jalal Enayah created this playful Harden Vol. 5 colorway to elevate the look of basketball players young and old. The Core Black upper gets layers of lightly padded textile material for a more luxe ride. Aside from a subtle trio of stripes on the heel tab, notably absent on this colorway is the inclusion of adidas branding on the shoe’s sides. However, one could argue the aqua shapes along the eyestays form a sort of amorphous striping.
Other childlike, colorful shapes spot the upper in shades of cream, yellow, orange, blue and pink, adding dimension and positive vibes to the overall look of this sneaker. The medial side calls out the shoe’s namesake and co-creator (Harden,) volume (Vol. 5) and chapter (1) in white.
A black mesh throat forms a pathway to the tongue, which displays James Harden’s signature in pink and the player’s Harden logo in black and tan. Black tongue, sock-like bootie and heel tabs make it easy to don and doff the basketball shoe.
The Vol. 5, Chapter 1 boasts Futurenatural technology, which seamlessly blends Lightstrike cushioning with adidas Boost for superior comfort and bounce that enhances natural movement. Black rubber with a pyramid-like pattern coats the midsole, and a web-like traction pattern underfoot makes for the same on-court precision “Spida” himself requires. Multicolored “BOOST” lettering brightens up the outsole, mimicking the upper’s shapes and colors.
