The 1987–88 NBA season was a big milestone in Michael Jordan’s career as both a player and a Nike athlete. It was also the season he and Nike designer Tinker Hatfield debuted the Nike Air Jordan 3. The “UNC” AJ 3 Retro rendition looks back even further to Jordan’s college-playing days and features the classic style of the original sneaker.
On March 7, celebrate MJ’s beginnings in style with the Air Jordan 3 Retro “UNC” release, incorporating a mix of Tar Heel hues — Valor Blue, Tech Grey and white. The Jordan basketball sneaker drops in men’s sizes.
Tumbled and smooth leathers trim the upper, with perforated holes enhancing breathability around the lacing system and along the sneaker’s throat and tongue. Elephant print embellishes the shoe’s mudguard and heel — a unique pattern introduced in 1988 on the OG sneaker as part of the Jordan Elements Series.
The original AJ3 was also the first in the Jordan line to feature both the Jumpman logo and a visible Air unit. The new “UNC” rendition includes the Jumpman branding on the tongue in the UNC Light Blue, outlined in black; the Jumpman colors are reversed at the heel — black outlined in Light Blue. White laces thread through a Light Blue lacing system with black eyelets at the bottom. Other details include a black, Tech Grey and blue outsole pattern with Jordan branding, comfy midsole and signature Air-Sole.
The “UNC” men’s Nike Air Jordan 3 Retros will be available March 7 in men’s sizes. Find these heritage-hued sneakers online and in-stores at Hibbett | City Gear.
