Nike continues to roll out new basketball sneakers so you can look sharp and stay game-time ready, whether you’re honing your skills at the park or you’re starting to get back into the gym.
In April, Nike debuted NBA star Kevin Durant’s latest sneaker line, the Nike KD13. And beginning June 5, players can slide their feet into a pair of the men’s basketball shoes in a “Bred” colorway composed of black, white and University Red. Iconic colorway aside, these sneakers are designed to make a huge splash from tip-off to the final buzzer, thanks to some seriously cool underfoot hardware.
First up, the sneaker’s upper. The KD13 has minimal materials designed to be both lightweight and flexible. Take these sneakers out of the box and directly to the game — no breaking in period required. A flash of color and texture punctuates the black gridded upper, thanks to the shoe’s oversized University Red Swoosh and black patent-leather overlay at the top of the lacing system. Plush padding plays prominently along the shoe’s tongue and collar for extra comfort around the ankle.
The upper is stitched directly to a full-length Nike Air Zoom cushion. This streamlined design follows the shape of the foot and offers improved responsiveness to complete those power plays. A second Zoom Air unit resides at the forefoot — as opposed to the heel — underneath the full-length Zoom. The double-stacked effect enables more movement and improved energy return.
Cutouts along the midsole reduce the weight of the shoe and enhance flexibility while offering a glimpse of the shoe’s inner Zoom Air cushioning. And, finally, the University Red outsole grounds the sneaker with its ground-gripping traction pattern.
