Tinker Hatfield’s history-making Jordan 4 released in February 1989 in the iconic “Black/Cement” or “Bred” colorway, and in three additional colorways, “White/Cement,” “Military Blue,” and “Fire Red,” shortly thereafter.
As the first model in the Air Jordan collection to be sold on the global market, and the first to hit the silver screen, the AJ 4 played a significant role in Michael Jordan’s rise to superstardom.
This weekend, MJ will add another chapter to his incredible legacy with the release of his first Jordan 4 Retro “What The?” sneaker.
In celebration of the OG Jordan’s 4’s 30th anniversary, the “What The?” AJ 4 Retro combines all the best features, unique details, and personal touches of the original four colorways into a single vessel that’s as impressive as His Airness himself.
Over its all-white leather base, the left “What The?” Jordan 4 features a fire red inner lining and red and grey lace cages, which rest atop a black background and white basketball net-inspired grid. The shoe’s midsole is colored in cement grey, while its inner tongue and heel counter are fashioned in military blue. The outsole of the left shoe is grey, red, and white.
Oppositely, the right shoe dons a grey heel counter and inner lining, black and blue lace cages atop a blue background and white grid, a black midsole, and a red inner tongue lining. The outsole of this shoe is grey, red, and black.
The original product codes for each Jordan 4 OG colorway are also printed on the lace caps of each shoe.
Though unconventional, the “What The?” Retro basketball shoe’s unique aesthetic tells a powerful story of one of the biggest years in Michael Jordan‘s career, while also providing a visual representation of the innovation and creativity to come in future Jordan models.
The “What The?” Air Jordan 4 Retro will be available in men’s, grade school kids‘, preschool kids’, and toddler kids’ sizes starting November 23 in-stores and online with Hibbett | City Gear. And be sure to check out our “What The” AJ 4 Retro apparel and accessories to complete your look!
