Features of the Air Jordan 11 Low Top
Tinker Hatfield served up plenty of sophisticated style with the mid-nineties introduction of the Air Jordan 11 Lows. Intimating the look of a classic sports car, Nike designer Hatfield added a leather shine along the shoe’s rand, laid atop a ballistic nylon mesh-cloth upper that mimics the feel of a convertible soft top. Nylon webbing anchors the laces, creating the now-famous “speed lacing” system. It wasn’t until a 2000 retro release that the shiny patent leather rand got applied to the sneaker for an even more luxe look.
A Zoom Air unit offers the wearer lightweight, responsive cushioning, while Cushlon foam contributes to the soft, responsive smoothness found in each step. Rubber sections along the outsole include a classic herringbone traction pattern in strategic areas to reduce high wear.
Not only were these Air Jordan 11 low top kicks front and center during one of his many Bulls Championship wins, they also got top billing in the 1996 cult sports classic “Space Jam,” which stars MJ and his Looney Tunes buddies.
