Michael Jordan made history in his ground-breaking Air Jordan 4s during the 1988-1989 game five buzzer-beater against the Cleveland Cavaliers. But the Jordan 4s themselves made history that year too, as the first Jordan sneaker released on the global market and an icon in pop culture.
Thirty years later, His Airness’ game-changing legacy continues with the introduction of the Air Jordan XXXIV.
All About The Jordan 34
As a tribute to MJ, now retired, the latest iteration of Brand’s iconic Air Jordan line features the number 23 in Morse code on the sneaker’s side.
The phrase “J4 – 34, 2.89-2019” is also visible on the shoe’s outsole in commemoration of the three decades since the launch of the AJ4s.
The Jordan 34 stands in stark comparison to its predecessor. Stripped of the Jordan 33’s characteristic bulk, weight and FastFit lacing, the Air Jordan 34 features an essentials-only design that eliminates unnecessary weight and optimizes traction, control and range of motion.
The Jordan 34 weighs in at just 13.1 ounces (size 9), making it among the lightest basketball shoes the Jordan Brand has created to date.
Take Flight in the AJ 34
The AJ34 also incorporates the line’s newest innovation, the Jordan Eclipse Plate.
An evolution of the Flight Speed Plate, first introduced with the AJ28, the Eclipse Plate prevents unnecessary sideways movement during play and provides a seamless transition from the sneaker’s midfoot to forefoot.
Characterized by a gap in the midsole, the Eclipse Plate’s most attractive benefit is its piston-like functionality that facilitates full engagement of the shoe’s two Zoom Air units.
The Jordan Eclipse Plate works in tandem with the Jordan 34’s the low-impact, energy-absorbing dual Air units to yield higher jumps and quicker cuts on the court.
