Mett Small Town Sneakerhead Brett Drake

Dec 16, 2020

A native of Thermopolis, Wyoming, and a current resident of Cheyenne, Brett Drake’s fascination with sneakers and sneaker culture began at age nine when his father brought home an unclaimed pair of White/Red Jordan XIIs left behind at the high school where he worked.

A budding baller himself, the sneakers were more than a symbol of Michael Jordan’s legacy; to Brett, they were a pair of kicks straight from The Black Cat’s own closet. Though the sneakers were ultimately destroyed by his skateboarding brother, Brett’s entrance into the sneakersphere had been made.

He began buying sneakers, primarily Jordan and Kobe basketball shoes, each year at the start of school, and then started collecting strategically after graduating from college in 2012. Today, the structural engineer, self-proclaimed sneaker nerd, and father boasts a collection of more than 250 shoes! By his count, Brett has roughly 140 Nike, 54 Jordan shoes, and 21 kicks from other brands. Among his grails are Nike Staple Pigeon Dunks, a first edition pair of Nike SB Air Trainer 1s, and a pair of 81-Point Game Zoom Kobe 1s.

As for what’s in the rest of his closet, Brett says he’s not concerned much from the feet-up. His style leans toward neutral tones and moderate colors. Fortunately for him, his local Cheyenne, Wyoming Hibbett Sports is well-stocked with Brett’s favorite kicks in colorways that play well with his personal style, making it easy and convenient for him to keep collecting.
