What are The World Games?
For 11 days, more than 3,000 competitors will convene in the ‘Ham to compete in more than 30 multidisciplinary sports throughout town. Read more about the long-held tradition of The World Games.
Where will The World Games 2022 be held?
Venues throughout Birmingham and the city’s suburbs will host games. Located in Hoover, Alabama, and home to the SEC baseball playoffs each year, the Hoover Met will host The World Games softball competition. Spectators can watch flying disc competitions at John Carroll Catholic High School in Homewood, Alabama, and the brand-new downtown Protective Stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies.
The games played fall into several sports categories:
Trend sports like orienteering, finswimming and canoeing
Strength sports. including powerlifting and tug-of-war
Precision sports such as archery and bowling
Martial arts, including kickboxing, sumo and karate
Ball sports ranging from fastball and handball to lacrosse, wheelchair rugby and squash
Artistic sports, including dance, gymnastics, parkour and roller sports
