It’s hard to get a sense of Birmingham, Alabama, if you’re just passing through. But veer off 20/59 or exit I-65, and you quickly get a sense of this beautiful, soulful city. Whether you’re following the Civil Rights trail downtown, popping into Chez Fonfon in Five Points for a drink and a slice of coconut cake or grabbing a burger at The Pizitz Food Hall or one of the many downtown breweries, there’s plenty of magic nestled into the Magic City.
Another sparkling gem in the crown that is Birmingham? The World Games 2022. As one of the many official sponsors of The World Games in Birmingham, Hibbett | City Gear is here to give you a sneak peek at some things you can expect when the games begin July 7.
For 11 days, more than 3,000 competitors will convene in the ‘Ham to compete in more than 30 multidisciplinary sports throughout town. Read more about the long-held tradition of The World Games.
Venues throughout Birmingham and the city’s suburbs will host games. Located in Hoover, Alabama, and home to the SEC baseball playoffs each year, the Hoover Met will host The World Games softball competition. Spectators can watch flying disc competitions at John Carroll Catholic High School in Homewood, Alabama, and the brand-new downtown Protective Stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies.
