It’s been a minute since we’ve seen the appearance of the beloved “Cherry” colorway, with its red, black and white makeup. The OG shoe was released in 1997, and Michael Jordan popularized them during his fifth NBA Championship season. The retro version was released in 2009. Now these kicks are back — and faithful to the original edition — just in time for the holidays.
A sumptuous white tumbled leather upper dresses the shoe’s upper, with tonal white stitching creating the sun-like rays that emanate from the cherry-red mudguards. The mudguards have a snakeskin-textured appearance, giving way to a red foam midsole that runs the length of the shoe.
White laces bisect the upper, climbing toward a tongue that features a black Jumpman and the signature “Two 3” stitched along the vamp. A black sockliner pads the shoe’s insides, providing a nice contrast against the crisp white leather. Silver eyelets embellish the top two lace loops for a locked-down look with all the sophistication of a Jordan sneaker.
A black elongated heel tab features Jordan branding with a white rubber “23” at the base of the ankle. Flip the shoe over to see the red rubber outsole with zonal black herringbone traction patterns and a black-and-white zigzag pattern set into the midfoot.
