Originally released during the 1993-1994 NBA season, the Air Jordan 9 was the first shoe to drop after Michael Jordan's first retirement. Without MJ's on-court presence, the Tinker Hatfield design didn't pack the same punch as its predecessors. Still, it dropped in four OG colorways—one of which is about to be revived.
Last seen in 2010, this kick includes a white leather upper with side panel stitching details. The black one-pull speed lacing system uses thin rope laces attached to black eyelets to make getting the shoe tightened up easier.
There's embroidered Dark Powder Blue Air Jordan branding on the black tongue. This matches the Powder Blue Jumpman emblem on the heel attached to a black tab. Also blue is the inner collar, though it's lined with black on the shoe's exterior.
The chunky Powder Blue midsole is solid throughout and doesn't have a peek-a-boo Air unit, just an embedded one. Beneath it is a white outsole with a black Jumpman on the lateral edge.
Underfoot, there's an oversized Powder Blue Jumpman embedded in the heel along with the standard international language treading on the forefoot. These words are in various languages like Swahili, French, Spanish, and more and translate into phrases that dominate MJ's game like "dedicated", "sport," and "intense."
Grab the shoe that His Airness never wore in the NBA (but is still immortalized in "The Spirit" statue in the United Center). The Jordan 9 Retro OG "Powder Blue" drops on March 23 in sizes for men, grade school kids, preschool kids, and toddler kids at your local Hibbett or City Gear store, or online on launch day!
