The OG hybrid sneaker is a mashup of some of your favorite silhouettes. At first glance this is a fresh, low cut twist on the traditional Spizike. Released as a limited-edition shoe beginning in 2006, the Spizike pays tribute to the friendship between Michael Jordan and filmmaker Spike Lee, the latter of whose efforts in movies and campaigns championed the Air Jordan brand. 

This “Houston Oilers” release takes on the Air Jordan 5’s quarter-panel netting, the lacing Wings of the AJ 4 and the crackled elephant print mudguards of the Air Jordan 3. 

This release lands in shades of light and lighter blue for a nearly tonal appearance, boosted by textural elements and hits of University Red. A smooth, light blue nubuck dresses the upper, along with the TPU eyelets and Wings that anchor the lacing system. The shoe also features a neoprene tongue, absent of any branding. 

Elephant print mudguards feature both Football Blue and Fountain Blue, with the darker tone coating the signature netting along the shoe’s sides. 

An overlay atop the lacing system features University Red Jumpman branding just below the red lace toggle. A red forefoot traction pattern and Jordan branding appear along the rubber outsole. Spizike branding, meanwhile, lands on the heel of the shoe. 

With its limited releases, Spizikes have always been the hybrid to cop. This new, low silhouette pushes the sneaker model back into the collective consciousness with its colorway paying homage to the Houston NFL team.
