The Nike Air Foamposite has a storied relationship with royal blue: It was the basis of the shoe's OG colorway at launch back in 1997. Celebrating the enduring appeal of a revolutionary silhouette, the House of Swoosh drops the Nike Air Foamposite "Deep Royal" colorway on September 12 in all sizes.

A fresh take on a classic look, the "Deep Royal" colorway is set to be both a throwback to the OG beginnings of an iconic sneaker and look ahead to the future of a unique and enduring design.

A Legacy Look, Refreshed for 2025

The Nike Air Foamposite One was launched in 1997 in a striking royal blue and black colorway and was made famous by Penny Hardaway (after it was allegedly rejected by Scottie Pippen). The sneaker's molded plastic upper spoke to its ambitions — this was a futuristic, performance-forward shoe. The fact that there aren't many shoes built off the design legacy of the Foamposite One speaks to the fact that sneakers largely moved in a different design direction. However, the fact that the Foamposite One is still around, still commanding retro releases and reissues, speaks to the fact that it remains a fascinating episode in sneaker history.

We've already seen several Foamposite releases in 2025, including the Nike Air Foamposite One "Black Volt" men's shoe that dropped in March. But the forthcoming "Deep Royal" colorway that drops on September 12 puts a new spin on an old favorite. The original "Royal" Ones featured a bright, glossy upper. The "Deep Royal" drop gives that original colorway a new matte finish for a sleeker, more wearable look.

Deep Royal Details & Design

Hot on the heels of highly anticipated 2025 drops like the Nike Air Foamposite One "Black Volt," the new "Deep Royal" colorway combines Deep Royal and Black Ice. The upper is the traditional seamless, molded polyurethane that forms the iconic Foamposite shell, this time rendered in a muted matte blue rather than the typical glossy finish.

A semi-translucent outsole carries a herringbone pattern for on-court traction. The shoe's full-length Zoom cushioning, mesh tongue and carbon fiber shank are the key components of a superior lightweight sports shoe, built to encourage superior on-court performance from elite players like Penny Hardaway.

Look out for the iconic "1 Cent logo" on the heel — hallmark branding for the Foamposite One — and a subtle Nike Swoosh at the forefoot.

On release day, the Nike Air Foamposite One "Deep Royal" is expected to launch via raffle on the Hibbett mobile app and website. Available in full family sizing, priced at $240.
