Right away, you'll see the polyurethane foam covering most of the upper. It's stitched to black nubuck eyestays that hold black laces in place. The collar and heel are also black, including the tongue and heel tabs.
On the mesh tongue and heel, you'll see Penny Hardaway's signature "1 Cent" branding. It's embroidered on the heel and an emblem on the tongue. As soon as Hardaway saw this shoe during a pitch meeting for his next signature kick, he knew he had to have it.
He loved them so much that he started wearing them just two games before the playoffs. And when he donned them during the playoffs, he actually used a black Sharpie to color the shoes to make them dress-code compliant.
The rest of this shoe has just as much pizzazz, with black inner booties to snuggle your feet, a black insole with Nike Air branding, and a Swoosh embroidered on the lateral forefoot. Embedded in the midsole is a checkerboard Chrome carbon fiber shank plate, and underneath that is a Team Gold rubber outsole with black traction patterns. Embedded in the sole is a final "1 Cent" logo.
Penny's fervor for this shoe helped to make it a classic we still know and love today.
