The Legacy of the Nike Air Zoom Huarache 2K4
Originally released in 2004, the Nike Huarache 2K4 is a masterclass in peak performance. It was designed by Eric Avar, improving upon the 1992 Nike Huarache collection with modern features and technology. The 2K4 shoes were famously worn by Kobe Bryant the year they came out, cementing their status as a shoe fit for legends.
Avar had a vision when he set out to revamp the Huarache. He wanted to create a look that offered the classic basketball-shoe aesthetic, loaded with modern sneaker technologies. Rather than a futuristic, experimental appearance, he kept these Nike high-top sneakers familiar, while infusing the newest features into the design.
His design debuted during Nike’s Alpha Project era, which emphasized fresh sneaker tech and avant-garde styles, such as the Air Presto, Shox BB4 and Air Flightposite sneakers. By returning to the roots of basketball sneaker culture, Avar brilliantly blended old with new.
Complete with Air Zoom cushioning, a herringbone outsole pattern, a high-top silhouette and the five dots that represent the Alpha Project, these are a triumph in performance and style. They pay homage to the OG ‘90s Huaraches, but deliver elite comfort and support.
