Lead designer Jason Petrie drew inspiration from the way LeBron spends his time off the court—specifically, how he trains. Petrie talked to LeBron's trainer, who likened keeping LeBron in shape to taking care of an F1 car.
The metaphor stuck, and the design reflects this speedy inspiration with a Zoom Turbo unit in the forefoot and a bottom-loaded, 13mm Zoom unit for added propulsion. Even the upper is lightweight and breathable to increase speed. And for a fun touch, the striated upper is meant to look like the veining of an oyster shell—protecting the precious pearl, your feet, inside.
But you can't be all speed without protection—that's where the full-length Cushion 2.0 foam comes into play for additional pillowy support. A TPU midfoot shank also adds a little extra stability for those hard cuts on the hardwood, as do the 360-degree zonal cables over the footbed.
Worship at the throne of King James when you add the LeBron 21 "James Gang" to your wardrobe. These basketball shoes hit the shelves on May 1 in men's sizes, online and at local Hibbett stores.
