The Nike Air More Uptempo ’96 “Black/University Red/Midnight Navy” launches March 4 in men’s, grade school, preschool and toddler kids’ sizes at Hibbett | City Gear.

Back in the mid-90s, when you wanted to turn up the volume on the court, you went with the Nike Air More Uptempo. This shoe was all about maximizing speed—and looking good while doing it. Now, you’ll have a chance to bring that same loud presence to the streets with an updated colorway.

The all-new Nike Air More Uptempo in University Red, Midnight Navy and black looks as sick as it sounds. The first thing you’ll notice about this shoe is the larger-than-life “AIR” stamped across the medial and lateral sides. On the lateral side, this big and bold print comes in red overlays. On the medial side, its navy overlays with white trim. The color from the “R” of each word wraps around and meets mid-heel.

Underneath all of this detailing is classic black nubuck and leather perforated upper. You’ll see other touches of branding across the shoe, just not as bold. There’s a silver Swoosh on the toe, tongue and heel. Also on the heel is the Scottie Pippen logo, a nod to how the player popularized the shoe by wearing it in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

At the base of the shoe, you’ll see a thick black outsole perforated by transparent panels. As a final highlight, there are red and navy Swooshes in the traction pattern.

While these shoes did help propel Pippen and the rest of the U.S. to the gold medal in 1996, today, they’re probably better suited for off-court endeavors. Pair them with your favorite throwback jersey from the ’90s, along with a pair of basketball shorts or joggers. Little ones will love showing them off to friends as they dash around the playground.
