When Foamposite technology hit the scene in 1997, it changed the sneaker industry forever. A Nike designer actually hand-sculpted the original mold for the Foamposite One. Prior to that initial release, shoe manufacturers relied on standby materials like leather and rubber to create footwear, so this plastic-based material was pretty groundbreaking.

So groundbreaking, in fact, that some form of plastic is the norm today, as brands incorporate the lightweight material into nearly all their footwear. And Foamposite technology is still very much a player in the sneaker market. It inspired some of the most popular basketball shoes of all time. The throwback-style shoe features a molded synthetic foam shell upper with a foam-injected midsole that offers comfort and plenty of support. The shoe rides atop a sturdy outsole, a carbon fiber shank plate and a full-length Zoom Air unit, which is double-stacked at the heel for a smooth ride.
