The 1998 entry of the Air Max Plus onto the sneaker scene brought with it Tuned Air, which mixes solid half-spheres visible in the Air unit that provide more support and cushioning for enhanced comfort.
The Drift is a shoe for the modern era with that same revolutionary tech and Air Max Plus design cues incorporated into a new retro-’90s-meets-present-day styling. The “Panda” colorway is most recognizably a Nike Dunk colorway, but the the Drift effortlessly takes the black-white scheme and gives it an amped-up treatment.
A modern, bold and punchy offering, the Air Max Plus Drift features a white ocean-wave-like pattern sculpted from synthetic materials, with cutouts showcasing grey ballistic mesh outlined in black. A black vamp, laces, sockliner and tongue tag add a striking distinction to the largely white upper. Small, shiny black Swooshes take a backseat to the upper pattern, playing out near the rear of the quarter panels.
A white midsole showcases the Tuned Air featured along the forefoot and heel. Intimating a whale’s tale, a black midfoot plate offers arch support and stability. The black and white rubber outsole blends waffle and grid-like patterns in keeping with the OG Air Max Plus.
Thus far, the majority of Drift colorways have included gradient tones along the mesh, reminiscent of a beach-meets-city vibe. The “Panda” version takes a pared-down approach to color scheme, offering an exceptionally wearable, versatile take on this relatively new silhouette.
