Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant — these are NBA names anyone in the country (or the world, for that matter) easily recognizes. However, a newer kid on the block is quickly becoming a household name, just like his iconic predecessors. And since we’ve wrapped up celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, we thought it was the perfect time to highlight Devin Booker, guard for the Phoenix Suns, along with his fashion and potential up-and-coming Devin Booker shoes.
It’s not a stretch to say that D Book is truly all-American. Devin Booker’s background reflects an array of influences from Midwestern suburbia, where his mother resides, to the Deep South, on his father’s side. His ethnicity blends Caucasian, Latino and African-American.
Devin’s parents recognized his natural basketball abilities and collectively encouraged him to hone his potential-NBA skills. When he was only a teenager, he moved from his mother’s home in Michigan to train under the watchful eyes of his father, a retired, semi-professional basketball player in Mississippi. Devin credits his mother’s decision to let him move thousands of miles away to be with his father as being “courageous.” After all, it was his mother’s selfless act that paved the way for his current success.
Devin soaked in all the hardcourt know-how he could from his father and gained recognition as one of the nation’s most outstanding high school basketball players. He then earned a scholarship to the University of Kentucky, where he played with one of the most elite teams of all time. The NBA then drafted Devin in the spring of 2015 to play with the Phoenix Suns. At 18 years old, he was the youngest player in league history to make his NBA debut after only one season in college.
Today, Booker lives in Scottsdale, Arizona, hangs out at clubs in Old Town, hikes Camelback mountain and enjoys his dream car — a Ferrari convertible. But through all this fame, his humility has not faltered. He remembers his humble beginnings and passes his blessings forward with abounding acts of kindness — making a point to interact with fans, inspiring Latino youth any way he can and even hosting a three-day NYC tour for a young NBA fan with Down Syndrome.
Devin also helped Nike design the GT Cut in 2022 and signed a deal with the brand through 2029. Now his fans are calling for the release of a D Book signature shoe to show off Devin Booker’s style, and lingering reports indicate it may not be long before he joins the likes of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Paul George.
