Jun 1, 2021

Maybe you’re one of those people who loves logging miles, breaking personal records and pushing yourself a little farther each time you lace up your running sneakers. Or maybe you’re just starting out and motivating yourself with a Couch to 5K program before you hit the big time.

Either way, it’s time to lace up those sneaks to celebrate National Running Day Global Running Day on June 2. Whether you’re running solo or taking on the trails with a group, you can celebrate with any of Hibbett | City Gear’s technical running shoes, but if you’re unsure where to start your sneaker search, we’ve lined up a few of our favorites.

adidas UltraBoost 21

How do you marry performance with streetwear style for everyday wear or a half marathon? Just ask adidas. In addition to obsessive engineering, these sleek, fashionable running sneakers offer maximum energy return so you can stay fresh all run long AND dozens of colorways and design features that transition effortlessly between performance sneaker and athleisure style essential.

adidas is so hyper-focused on its Boost technology the Three Stripes brand worked with the International Space Station to study the Boost energy “pebbles” that compose the shoe’s midsole in space … without being encumbered by gravity. With that research in hand, adidas developed the new Ultraboost 21. Beyond the sneaker’s Boost midsole, other key features of the shoe include a Primeknit upper, a socklike fit, and a Stretchweb and Continental Rubber outsole to ensure grip on wet, slick surfaces.

Hoka Bondi 7

While they may not have the streetwear versatility of other running shoes on this list, it’s Hoka’s innovation and creativity that help them make the cut. Created by mountain trail runners who aimed to design running shoes that would be both comfortable and adaptable for runners.

No shoe of Hoka’s collection combines those elements quite like the Hoka Bondi 7. With its exceptional sole cushioning, this shoe comes packed with technologies that offer top-notch balance and responsiveness. A padded collar provides ankle stability and protection, a full EVA midsole provides responsiveness and a breathable mesh upper lets your feet breathe and resist compression.

Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 38

Starting out as Blue Ribbon Sports, the Nike brand has come a long way since its beginnings on the track at the University of Oregon. Created by Phil Knight and his former coach Bill Bowerman, Nike aimed to create running shoes for world-class runners and rookies alike who wanted the latest running technologies on their feet.

Enter the first Nike Pegasus, the shoe for every runner in 1983. Now nearly four decades later the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 38 still lives up to the hype, whether you are running around the block or going the distance. The Pegasus 38 swaps out the line’s traditional midsole for Nike React foam cushioning, and the forefoot’s Air Zoom unit is twice as large as that in previous renditions, offering more bounce and responsiveness. Translucent layers of mesh create a clean, streamlined aesthetic for runners of all skill levels.

Hibbett offers a variety of Pegasus 38 and 37 colorways in both men’s and women’s sizes. Shop our selection here.
