Since 1994, June has been celebrated as Pride Month to recognize the impact of the global LGBTQIA+ community. adidas Originals began honoring Pride Month in 2016 by incorporating special edition Pride-inspired colorways into some of their most popular sneaker lines to acknowledge both the history and struggles of the community.
On June 1, adidas debuts the latest sillhoutte to join the brand’s Pride collection lineup. The adidas Originals Forum Low Pride “Love Unites” sneakers are designed on the premise that love is love, and the global community is nothing without our LGBTQIA+ members.
This hardwood-ready sneaker seeks to unite with messages of hope and colorful suns adorning a white leather upper. The shoes will release in unisex sizes.
Back in 1984, adidas Forum basketball shoes were some of the most premium kicks on the court thanks to their ankle-stabilizing criss-cross straps (OGs were released in high top cuts.) Michael Jordan even sported the shoes during the 1984 Olympic trials.
While Forum models but high and low have been relatively under wraps for the past several decades, save for a Def Jam collab in the mid-aughts, adidas Originals designer Simone Smyth recently introduced a new generation to these seriously stylish sneaks that seamlessly cross over from arena wear to into the streetwear.
The Forum Low “Pride” or “Love Unites” edition takes a crisp white leather upper and sprinkles it with fanciful, almost scribbled-on embroidered suns whose blue, orange, red, green yellow and pink rays radiate color. “Love Unites” lettering comes colorfully embroidered on both sides of the shoe.
Orange outlines the top of the lateral-side midsole, meeting at the heel with a True Pink that runs along the medial side. Bright white laces lead up to the criss-cross hook-and-loop system, which features an ankle hinge. A sun-adorned strap comes on the shoe, and removable pink and orange straps with “Love Wins” stitched on them come with the sneakers, too.
In circular fashion, “Love Unites” surrounds the adidas Originals Trefoil logo on the nylon tongue tag, while nylon dellinger netting details part of the off-white midsole for an elegant finishing touch. The “Love Unites” message plays out along the insole as well.
A solid rubber capsule construction keeps these shoes looking fresh and sporty, no matter where you go. Flip them over for a classic rubber traction pattern so you can play your heart out on the court, march in a parade or support your LGBTQIA+ friends and family or self in style wherever you are.
It’s a time to celebrate that love is love and LGBTQIA+ rights are human rights. Shop the adidas Forum Low “Pride” unisex sneakers June 1 at Hibbett | City Gear.
