The Air Jordan brand is synonymous with basketball. From a playground court in NYC to a 10,000-person arena in Turkey, everyone who loves the game knows the shoes that put the game on the map. This summer, the retro 12 pays homage to the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the upcoming Basketball World Cup with the Air Jordan Retro 12 “FIBA” basketball shoes in the White and Red colorway.
Basketball is a year-round sport. Whether it’s exhibition games, the NBA Summer League or global competitions, there’s more than enough basketball to fill the gap between the last game of the NBA Finals and preseason. The AJ Retro 12 “FIBA” commemorates the upcoming FIBA World Cup that will take place in China by showing off the host country’s colors.
The Air Jordan 12s were the first model to drop after the brand’s transition into an official Nike subsidiary. Hitting the streets in 1996, the originals reverted from a predominantly leather make to the Jordan 2’s faux lizard skin. The basketball shoes turned countless heads due to their mudguards and the unique Japanese rising sun design.
Michael Jordan won his fifth title with the Bulls while rocking the 12s and forever cemented the basketball sneakers in the minds of Chicago fans as a result of MJ’s legendary performance in Game 5 of the NBA finals — also known as “The Flu Game.”
Paying homage to the Japanese Flag, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield created the Air Jordan 12 and made it the first pair to include Nike’s Zoom Air Technology. Along with its iconic Black and Red colorway, the Air Jordan Retro 12 has enjoyed some of the best lifestyle releases over the years. The Jordan 12 “FIBA” is a solid addition to any sneakerhead’s collection.
The leather and synthetic upper with overlays delivers added durability, while the full-length Air-Sole unit provides lightweight cushioning. A solid, translucent rubber outsole boosts traction.
