What to Wear to CrossFit – Footwear and Apparel

Dec 19, 2019

A new year is on the horizon, and a new you is in the near future. Kick start your weight loss and healthy-living new year with CrossFit.

CrossFit uses a combination of high-intensity, natural movement-inspired exercise, and a low-carb/high-protein diet to help you reach your peak in 10 key performance areas: Cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed coordination agility, balance, and accuracy.

At Hibbett | City Gear, we can’t do much to help with your grocery shopping and meal choices, but we CAN help you with what to wear to your CrossFit workouts.

CrossFit Shoes

Running shoes are permissible in the CrossFit gym, but a pair of flat-footed trainers facilitate the stability and groundedness required to safely execute CrossFit exercises, and at the top of every “best shoes for CrossFit” list is the Nike Metcon collection.

The new Nike Metcon React men’s shoe features a Nike React midsole for lightweight, responsive cushioning during high-impact exercises like box jumps and running, while the trainer’s zonally-reinforced knit construction provides durability and comfort.

While this particular CrossFit shoe is currently only offered in men’s sizes at Hibbett | City Gear, we do have a great Nike Footwear Sizing Guide that can help size these shoes for women, too.

Alternatively, we recommend the Under Armour HOVR Rise women’s training shoe. These CrossFit kicks provide wearers with a “zero gravity” feel, supported by a compression mesh Energy Web-enclosed HOVR cushioning system, which supplies maximum energy return during sprints, burpees and cardio-centric Tabata workouts. UA HOVR Rise trainers are also ultra-lightweight thanks to their 3D print mesh upper.

CrossFit Clothing

The perfect CrossFit clothing offers a combination of flexibility, breathability and stress-free style.

Under Armour’s HeatGear Armour compression shorts for women are some of the best CrossFit shorts the market. Their snug fit prevents unwanted material roll-up as wearers squat or run, and the shorts’ lightweight, moisture-wicking fabric helps keep CrossFitters cool and dry. For ladies who prefer full-coverage bottoms, Under Armour also sells HeatGear Armour capris.

Whichever option you choose, pair it with an Under Armour Women’s 2.0 Racer Tank Top in black, white or orange. The workout tank’s loose-fitting silhouette enables maximum range of movement and breathability, and the racerback style accentuates developing back and shoulder muscles. Plus, the shirt’s moisture-wicking material utilizes UA Microthread technology to promote faster drying, and anti-odor tech fights off odor-causing microbes to keep you smelling fresh.

The adidas Men’s TAN Pants combine a compression pant base layer with loose-fitting training shorts to produce a single piece of clothing. These CrossFit bottoms are made with sweat-wicking fabric for workout-long comfort and temperature regulation. They also feature zip-up side pockets for storing lightweight fitness accessories like weight lifting gloves and earbuds.

Nike Men’s Dry Training Shorts and Under Armour Men’s MK1 training shorts are great for CrossFit workouts, too.

Complete your clothing collection with a versatile Nike Men’s Pro Fitted Sleeveless or Longsleeve shirt in black or white, and a Climacool-equipped adidas Men’s Alphaskin Bade of Sport short sleeve tee.

This tee provides light compression without restricting movement and incorporates mesh inserts on its back and sleeves for improved breathability while grinding on the CrossFit gym floor.

CrossFit Accessories

Additional CrossFit accessories to keep in your gym bag include Under Armour Adult Rivaled American Socks for keeping your feet snug in your shoes and dry, a Jordan Jumpman Headband or a Nike Floral Fury 2.0 Headband for keeping your hair and sweat out of your face, and an O2Cool ArticSqueeze Mist ‘N Sip water bottle.
