NBA Finals 2022: Memorable Sneaker Moments

Jul 22, 2022

Two of the original NBA franchises — the Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics — faced off during the 2022 NBA Finals. Ultimately, the Warriors were victorious, defeating the Celtics in six games and earning their fourth NBA title since 2014–2015. But the championship game wasn’t the only thing turning heads. Stephen Curry donned his new Curry shoes, while Jayson Tatum’s Jordan 36s stirred up the spotlight.

Tatum & the Jordan 36 Kicks

During Game 2, Jayson Tatum strolled onto the court in a pair of Jordan 36s that may have demanded a double take from some onlookers. Designer Melody Ehsani decided to wrap the sneaks in white, yellow, blue and beige snakeskin throughout the side panels, tongue, heel straps and midsole. Even the laces resembled something of a timber rattler. Additionally, Ehsani added several Easter eggs to the design, including a hamsa hand on a golden lace charm and printed on the outsole.

Ehsani also included a golden globe at the bottom of the lacing units — a charm with dangling gold player silhouettes as well as “ME” charms as a nod to the shoe’s theme. Going one step further (no pun intended), Ehsani mounted “ME” branding on the left sneaker’s tongue, while the right sneaker proudly presents the brand’s iconic Jumpman graphic. To top it off, Ehsani pays tribute to the industry’s predecessors, whether on the court or in the sneaker space, with a quote on the insole: “We stand on the shoulders of greats.”

The Debut of the New Curry 4 Shoes

The NBA Finals 2022 held two monumental things for Stephen Curry — his first NBA Finals MVP award and the new Curry 4 FloTro, an updated version of a classic hoop shoe that pays homage to the kicks that propelled Curry through some of his most historic performances.

This Under Armour sneak is the first in a series of reimagined models scheduled for release this year. Its construction includes cutting-edge technology that completely replaces the rubber outsole with UA’s signature Flow technology. As a result, the shoe features a responsive, supportive singular-foam compound that supplies optimal traction as well as the highest-performing, ground-contact cushioning technology the brand has ever produced.

And the addition of UA’s IntelliKnit heel collar provides easy accessibility coupled with the perfect mix of stretch and support. The new Curry shoes will debut on July 22 in two colorways — pink and black. And on Aug. 5, the lilac and gray colorways will emerge. Under Armour plans to release even more colorways later this year.
