In April 2021, RIP-IT – the leader in softball protective gear – announced that the brand was bringing Ringor into its brand family. Why? Because combining Ringor’s 30 years of innovation and reputation for the production of the industry’s most comfortable turf shoes and metal and molded softball cleats with RIP-IT’s extensive list of retail partners around the world, the two brands can elevate the softball experience for female athletes far and wide. It just makes sense!
Hibbett | City Gear is excited to be one of those retail partners. Athletes can now shop online at Hibbett.com for dozens RIP-IT Ringor softball cleats and turf shoes, including these signature athletes collections.
Characterized by blue and grey tones and animal print, the Be You collection comes from former collegiate softball player , Olympian and current professional softball player Taylor Edwards. The art direction of these cleats was inspired by Taylor’s love of Big Cats, animals she feels symbolize female empowerment with their magestic movements, beauty and strength. Her Big Cat of choice for this project was the snow leopard.
In an interview with RIP-IT in late 2021, they asked Taylor why she chose a leopard for her artistic inspiration.
She replied, “I thought about the spots on them. The entire leopard family has spots on them. Everyone has pieces of their story that make them who they are now. Things that happened in middle school, high school, college, and even yesterday that make me who I am right now. How could I incorporate those moments into this collection?
I love being me. I love not caring what other people think. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in that. So much so, that you’re not your genuine self. A couple of years ago, I just decided to stop caring about what other people think. I wanted to really live and not live like a zombie in this world trying to please other people.
I really like the spots thing. Each spot is different. Just like every moment in your life is different. They transform you into who you are. You are forever changing. That’s how the name of my collection, Be You, came up. Let each individual spot on the shoe represent something that you want it to be.”

All American, professional softball player and content creator Sam Fisher is the brain behind the SAMU52 Signature “Soundwaves” softball cleat, which she says represents the ups and downs of life and playing softball. In an interview with RIP-IT Ringor, Taylor explained, “there are ups and downs and lefts and rights, but that would have been hard to draw. Taylor and I were talking about this earlier. Am I going to play next year? Am I going to have a shot? It’s a lot. It’s stressful. You know that this is what you want to do, but there are little bitty opportunities. It’s just the career. Success and failures. At the end of the day, it smoothes out but you have to go through the ups and downs.”
In that same interview, Sam was asked, “what advice would you give the next generation of softball players?”
“Stay true to yourself. Do the things that make them the most them. In my career, there were times I would see another shortstop that was incredible and think I needed to play like her. In reality, she needed to play like her and I just needed to play like me. She’s got playing like her already taken care of. And I think this can be a really big challenge, especially now in the age of social media.
In reality, you can only do what you can do. I think it’s really helpful to look in the mirror and realize that no one can really do what I can do. I gotta be able to go out there and do it the best way that I can.”

Like Sam, Kayla Green knows all too well about the ups and downs of life. The leader, softball player and warrior drew inspiration for her signature RIP-IT Ringor cleat from the ups and downs of her own life as a child and adolescent. Her experiences and will to overcome are now depicted in the form of a wave on her “Rising Tide” softball cleat.
But of all things that could represent triumph, strength and a warrior mentality, why the wave?
It represents that life has its ups and downs. It’s just a continuous cycle. Waves never stop. Whether they are little or they’re big. And that’s life. Your ups and downs never stop. It’s just that some are little and some are big,” Kayla said. “The waves represent the ups and downs of my life. No matter what, you survive the downs because there will be ups. And the ups are way bigger than the downs!”

If anyone knows about fight and grit, it’s Maddie Meulken. The former DIII pitcher and current softball coach beat cancer as she was finishing up her senior year of high school. Now, she is mapping out a career for herself that will allow her to help others who have been impacted by cancer.
In a spotlight interview with Maddie, the RIP-IT team asked her to tell them about the moment she decided on the design for her signature collection.
She replied, “Colleen (RIP-IT designer) and I had a meeting in the morning. I was deciding between the mountain design aspect and the ocean design. I was torn between both. I asked Colleen if I could think on this. Just think about it. I love them both so much.
I thought about it. I talked it over with my parents, and that’s how we came to the conclusion of the ocean one. The mountain was nice, but I thought the ocean design represented more of my journey. The ocean just reminded me of just being calm, and as the waves come, they represent your battles throughout your life. The waves represent those bumps in the road of your journey.”
