The adidas Crazy 8 "Black/White" men's basketball shoe drops August 26 at Hibbett | City Gear.
It’s back! While its return got teased a bit during All-Star Weekend, the adidas Crazy 8 silhouette officially debuts (again!) beginning August 26 at Hibbett | City Gear. The men’s basketball shoes will launch in Core Black, white and Collegiate Purple.
Before Kobe Bryant signed with Nike, his first bball shoe was with the Three Stripes brand. Originally named the KB8, the shoe eventually became known as Crazy 8, owing to its bold, unapologetic design complete with zig-zags and stripes. While they first dropped in 1997, the Crazy 8s got put back in the vault several times.
This 2023 release will mark the beginning of several Crazy 8 colorways. The “Core Black” edition relies on a variety of materials — suede, mesh, nubuck and leather — for a layered look with plenty of structure and breathability.
A black mesh vamp bisects the shoe, which features large swaths of black nubuck and suede panels forming stripes down the sides, interspersed with white leather. Black suede dresses the toebox, and black mesh plays out along the ankle collar. A zig-zag black and white midsole adds to the dynamic aesthetic of the Crazy 8s.
The tongue and heel tabs take on a dotted-line appearance — a visual that also wraps around the collar and criss-crosses toward the heel. Branding includes adidas Originals’ Three Stripes on the sides. The heel’s branding mixes subtle gold and Collegiate Purple, paying tribute to the Lakers.
The vamp and medial ankle area include the Feet You Wear (FYW) logo — a ’90s-style face that points to the FYW technology that keeps the foot stable and low to the ground — therefore reducing injury. Herringbone traction patterns on the outsole enhance grip, whether you’re on the court or the pavement.
The Crazy 8s are so much more than just a passing trend. Even after Black Mamba popularized the shoes, its adidas basketball technology and silhouette lives on thanks to its durable design, use of high-quality materials and enduring tech.
