Gentle curves organically define the Air Jordan 11, creating a refined package buoyed by Black, Varsity Red and white tones. A red, semi-translucent outsole grounds the sneaker, complete with solid black herringbone rubber strategically placed at the heel and forefoot of the shoe. Sandwiched between the patent leather and the red outsole is the white textured Phylon midsole with full-length Air-Sole unit and carbon fiber shank plate — all of which contribute to the incredible comfort and stability of the AJ 11 Retro.
That white midsole works well when combined with the luxe black patent leather mudguards that completely encircle the upper and dress the toebox. Black leather forms the collar, adorned by a white “23” at the heel and a small red embroidered Jumpman along the ankle. Black ballistic nylon mesh composes the upper’s balance. The ribbon-like black lacing system includes black tubular laces, complete with the tag located halfway down the tongue.
Details and colorway aside, the cultural phenomenon of the shoes can’t be overstated either. Tinker Hatfield was the master designer of the Air Jordan 11s. And when he initially began creating the silhouette, Jordan wasn’t even playing basketball. But just a month before the 11s officially hit the market, Jordan made his basketball comeback after that brief baseball foray.
While many Air Jordan models transcend the boundaries of the basketball court, the Jordan 11 in particular seamlessly moves from the paint to the red carpet. It’s a true lifestyle shoe with timeless fashion sense, thanks to Hatfield’s thoughtful vision and His Airness’ enduring star power.
