Air Jordan XXXVIII Low "Fundamentals" Launching 01/09 Colorway: BLACK/WHITE/SIREN RED Style: Men's & Kids' Basketball Shoe

Release Date: January 09, 2024

Dec 20, 2023

The Jordan brand has a new recruit. New Orleans Pelicans power forward Brandon Ingram not only brings the heat on court, but the Jumpman gave him the honor of unveiling its latest Air Jordan 38 silhouette as he recently put the shoe through its paces during a workout.

And, on January 9, you can try your hand at copping a pair of this striking release. The Air Jordan 38 Low “Fundamentals” is anything but a “back to basics” sneaker edition. The black, white and Siren Red color scheme takes the DNA of the traditional Bred colorway and modernizes it with textures and patterns. Add in some truly groundbreaking technology, and you have a powerhouse of a basketball sneaker, whether you play at the level of Ingram or you just need a shoe for casual games of pickup. Hibbett | City Gear will have the shoe available in grade school and men’s sizes.

First let’s talk tech: Originally released this past August in higher cut styles, the AJ 38 Low takes on an even more streamlined look. The X-Plate system, which takes its design cues from the AJ 8’s cross straps, helps keep the wearer’s foot securely in place over the footbed. Like its original counterpart, the low version includes a full-length Zoom Strobel and Cushlon foam for supreme, low-to-the-ground comfort.

Neoprene and textile commingle to form a lightweight, powerful upper, made with at least 20% recycled content, for the most sustainable Jordan shoe to date. Pattern-wise, this “Fundamentals” release is all about variety. The more loosely woven white cross-hatched mesh around the toebox gives way to diagonal black lines set against a tightly woven white backdrop, which moves into a herringbone pattern of black on white and finally culminates in black and white diamonds at the heel, symbolizing Michael Jordan’s performance in the ’93 championship series.

All-black textiles bisect the middle of the shoe, culminating with a red Jumpman emblem on the tongue. Plush red lines the shoe’s interior. The Siren Red tone also plays along the midsole beneath clear, translucent overlays.

This January 9, get ready for the “Fundamentals.” Hibbett | City Gear will have both the grade school and men’s editions of the Air Jordan 38 Low in black, Siren Red and white. Stay tuned for more exciting releases from the Jumpman and other favorite brands via our launch calendar
