It’s baaaack! While some things are, admittedly, better left in the 90s, this latest shoe from the Swoosh transcends the decade thanks to its solid construction, premium materials and enduring colorways.
Originally released in 1994, the Air Max 2 CB 94 coincided with Charles Barkley’s time playing with the Phoenix Suns. Sir Charles fans and Air Max lovers alike can get their hands on a pair of the men’s Nike Air Max 2 CB 94 Retro sneakers in an “Old Royal” rendition beginning January 9.
The Old Royal shoe is a continuation of the brand rolling out new colorways, with a few releases in mid-2023. We also saw this white, black and Old Royal edition back in 2021 and given its highly sought-out nature, we’re happy to see it back.
A white tumbled leather, high cut base features a series of circular cutouts backed in black material along the overlays that anchor the lacing system from midsole. This domino-like-effect adds to the utilitarian look and feel of the shoe. Tubular laces help create a custom fit, with black bands tethering the foot in place atop the mesh tongue.
Smaller perforations sprinkle across the toe box and shoe’s sides to enhance the breathability of this basketball-turned-lifestyle sneaker. The midsole lands in black, with a visible Air window running the width of the heel. Old Royal blue accents the mesh sockliner and back of the tongue, with blue pods visible at the outsole and midsole.
Air Max 2 branding appears in white on the tongue, black Nike Air branding lands on the heel emblem and midfoot strap, and a small white Swoosh appears above the Air-Sole window.
Flip the shoe over and you’ll see an unusual traction pattern perfect for executing Barkley’s power moves, along with an Old Royal Swoosh and a small Air window in the heel.
