Nike Basketball Senior Footwear Designer Ben Nethongkome said the goal was to create a shoe that looks like it belongs off the court but performs like the best of them. He drew inspiration from restomod cars to get it done.
The light purple upper here is a mix of rugged canvas and twill along the side panels and heel and suede on the toe and vamp. The collar shines in a darker purple, as does the classic side panel Swoosh. It's outlined in a similarly toned embroidery.
The Book logo on the tongue is simple enough, with a small Swoosh at the end. The shoe's insole features a barcode, while the back heel is printed with the phrase "Chapter One." On the heel tab, you'll see "96" — a reference to Booker's birth year.
The interior details of this shoe are what take it to the next level. These include a CushIon 2.0 foam midsole, as well as a rigid TPU sidewall for lateral stability. These are a monochromatic purple that runs cleanly around the base of the shoe. Stuffed in the heel is a 14-millimeter Zoom Air bag.
The light purple rubber outsole includes a herringbone pattern to provide traction. There's also a final Air Zoom logo printed on the heel.
