To no one’s surprise, Luka Doncic has been tearing up the court for the Dallas Mavericks this season. Another thing the Slovenian point guard is tearing up? The sneaker game. His new basketball shoes dropped this summer to much fanfare.
Now, it looks like we’ll be enjoying a brand-new colorway. The white and black Jordan Luka 1 was designed specifically for the multidimensional play of The Matador. The duo chromatic design is dropping on November 8 in grade school kids’, preschool kids’ and toddler kids’ sizes.
One defining feature of the Luka 1 is the IsoPlate foot frame that goes across the lateral forefoot. You’ll also see a series of squiggly lines across the upper — hese are Flightwire cables that help with containment. These sit below a cutout of black mesh with white threading details.
There’s also black mesh on the medial side, just without the white detailing and squiggly lines. Also along the middle on the edge of the eyestays is some clever branding: “Non Desistas. Non Exieris” on the right shoe, and “Jordan Brand Basketball” on the left. If you’re a bit rusty with Latin, the first phrase translates to “never surrender, never give up.”
The rest of the upper is white with a bit of a dimpled overlay. There’s even a white heel support, though it does feature a patch of black as well as a black heel tab.
Flat white laces cover a ventilated white tongue. On the branding, you’ll see Luka’s logo stitched in black. It’s a bit duplicitous in meaning. Luka had said it was inspired by the Mobius strip, his initials and his number 77. The negative space in between the two shapes is also meant to look like an “S” to represent Slovenia.
A Formula 23 white foam midsole offers a responsive ride for kids as they’re testing out their limits on the court. Patches of shiny black at the midfoot and toe add nice visual contrast. There is one flash of color in this shoe on the heel and outsole. A Volt insert at the bottom of the heel alerts you to the Formula 23 foam. On the outsole, the Volt turns translucent for a see-through traction pattern featuring the elusive Jumpman.
Kids will love wearing these kicks with their favorite basketball shorts and tee. They can even throw them on with sweats after facing off against their friends in the big game.
Though your kid may be too young to dunk, they can definitely still rock Luka’s style. Mark your calendars so you can grab the black and white Jordan Luka 1 on November 8 in grade school kids’, preschool kids’ and toddler kids’ sizes online or at your local Hibbett | City Gear.
