Sneakers Release: Nike Air More Uptempo 96 “Laser Crimson” Black/Red Basketball Shoe

Dec 16, 2019

Some say the 90s were a larger-than-life time. Things were bigger, bolder, brighter — something Nike designer Wilson Smith had in mind when he set to work creating the newest Nike Air More Uptempo 96 colorway. These sneakers perfectly capture the essence of 1996 with their in-your-face branding, jet back upper and bold red accents.

Hitting shelves on December 19, find the Nike Air More Uptempo 96 is Black and Laser Crimson at Hibbett | City Gear, available in men’s, grade school kids’, preschool kids’ and toddler sizes.

The Uptempo basketball shoe jumped into the spotlight when Michael Jordan’s right-hand man, Scottie Pippen, rocked a pair of OG Uptempos during the ’96 Chicago Bulls championship season. The newest “Laser Crimson” colorway pays homage to the Bulls’ 4th NBA championship and the first win during the team’s second three-peat.

The Air More Uptempo 96‘s massive “AIR” branding on the upper conveys a one-of-a-kind look that emulates the graffiti-style graphics and typography commonly found in 90s fashion and street art. Red airbrushing fades from the shoe’s mid to outsole, another reflection of graffiti’s influence on basketball and pop culture.

A set of elastic straps spans the top of the shoe, which allows you to wear the sneakers without actually lacing them up. If you do tie them, the shoe’s unique lacing system uses a hook-and-loop closure with lace locks for added visual appeal.

Today, Nike Air More Uptempo kicks are worn more off the court than on, but in keeping with the traditional design, the black and laser crimson 96’s feature a full-length visible Air unit for lightweight, durable cushioning, and an upper constructed with breathable synthetic material and soft nubuck leather.
