It’s finally here! Back in February, Nike teased its latest shoe, the revolutionary new Nike Air Vapormax 2020. The shoe was expected to drop in time for the Tokyo Olympics.

But even with the Olympic Games postponed, the latest and greatest running shoe from the brand rolls out July 23 in women’s and grade school kids’ sizes in a black, Pure Platinum and multicolor palette.

What’s so special about this performance running shoe? For starters, it combines the power of Vapormax cushioning with the sustainability of recycled materials.

This low cut sneaker’s polyester Flyknit material — which comprises the shoe’s upper — is made of 75% recycled manufacturing waste with multicolored threading intertwined with a Pure Platinum backdrop.

The colors and materials are a bird’s-eye view of landfill piles, with a blurred-together vantage point of waste. A black Swoosh embroidered into the Flyknit integrates into the multicolor scheme, while purple and swirled blue-orange marble accents add structure along the sides, heel and toe.

The new shoe also debuts Nike’s FlyEase technology, a laceless system that locks down the foot for a more custom fit while making the shoes easy to put on and even easier to slip off. Neon pink bungee cords with lock tabs at the heel contribute to the foot-hugging fit, while generous pull tabs play out on the heel and the tongue.

The shoe’s silhouette stayed true to the iconic Air Max line, packing in the futuristic aesthetic of the Vapormax and more practical adjustments. The Vapormax 2020, for instance, lowers the translucent Vapormax cushioning, offering a more grounded (but comfortable and energy-returning) package.

The Vapormax outsole gets a clear, serpentine pattern, bolstered by colorful Nike Grind rubber material in areas of higher wear. Grind is Nike’s recycled manufacturing waste rubber solution, which adds to the sustainability of this package.
