How do you do your Dunks — up high or down low? Either way, these legendary Nike sneakers are a slam dunk in terms of enduring style and long-lasting comfort.
And on March 9, fans of the Nike Dunk from preschool and grade school age to grown man can connect with a pair of these perennially popular kicks in a high top “All-Star” weekend colorway dressed in Barely Green, black and white.
In the mid-80s, Nike decided to bank on the growing popularity of NCAA sports by creating a sneaker that would appeal to the college basketball crowd. The Nike Dunk would eventually become their hot ticket item. Designed by Peter Moore (you know, the genius behind the AJ 1,) these kicks were rolled out in a flurry of university colors and marketed to NCAA athletes, students and fans.
Since 1985, these shoes have endured, less as a basketball shoe and more as a pop culture phenom offered. In the more than 35 years since Nike Dunks debuted, the silhouette has transcended the basketball arena scene, appearing today on the feet of skaters, casual wearers and fashion influencers.
The Nike Dunk High “All-Star” edition commemorates the NBA’s upcoming All-Star Game, tentatively slated to take place March 7, with a supple, mint-green leather upper outlined in black patent leather. Barely Green laces weave through the black lacing system, climbing to reach the Nike tongue tag.
A white foam midsole keeps feet comfy at the skatepark, in the street or on the stage. A classic black rubber outsole with a concentric-circle pivot point is similar to the outsole pattern seen on Moore’s Jordan 1.
Perforations on the toe box emanate out in sun-like rays for visual appeal and breathability. A comfortable padded collar on both the Dunk High and Dunk Low renditions contributes to the sneaker’s exceptional comfort.
