Sneakers Release – Reebok Kamikaze 2 “USA” Vector Navy/White/Vector Red Men’s Basketball Shoe

Jun 25, 2020

Known as “The Reignman,” Shawn Kemp made a splash in the NBA in the ’90s and early 2000s. In the course of his 14-season NBA career playing for everyone from the Cavs to the Magic, Kemp was a six-time NBA All-Star. During what was arguably his best year — the 1995–96 season during which Kemp played for the Seattle Supersonics — The Reignman reigned supreme in a pair of the Reebok Kamikaze II shoes, which hit the market that same year.

And while the 1995 OGs became an instant classic, fans wouldn’t get a retro version until 2013. In 2020, prepare for a new Reebok Kamikaze II, dropping just in time for Independence Day. The Vector Navy, white and Vector Red rendition rolls out June 27 in men’s sizes.

When the Kamikaze II initially debuted, it was part of Reebok’s Mobius collection — shoe silhouettes characterized by their bold shapes, colorblocked palettes and aggressive design. The almost zebra-like design of the Kamikaze II added plenty of flash to Kemp’s feet as he sailed through the air.

The newest “USA” colorway boldly proclaims a patriotic chevron-style pattern that plays out along the shoe’s sides. The shoe layers red, white and blue like a flag-themed cake for the Fourth of July.

The high-cut upper is comprised of both tumbled leather and soft nubuck, with strategically perforated holes for enhanced game-play breathability. If the colorblocked aesthetic is the “broad stripes,” then the presence of silver on the tongue and along the midsole is the “bright stars,” adding eye-catching glimmers of metallic. Black laces crisscross atop a silver mesh throat, and Reebok branding adorns the tongue, heel and lateral side of the toe.

Underfoot technology amplifies on-the-court performance, contributing to the comfort and shock absorption needed during power plays. Those innovations come via the EVA cushioning coupled with Reebok’s signature Hexalite cushioning contained within the midsole. Both the EVA and Hexalite give way to a balanced outsole for just the right amount of traction so anyone can make it rain on the court.

Don’t worry about fitting in. Among all the other basketball sneaker models, the Reebok Kamikaze II is a real standout. Shop the men’s shoe beginning June 27 at Hibbett.com, or visit us in-stores at Hibbett | City Gear.
