Spring will be here before we know it, which means it’s time to start getting your golf game back on par and your closet updated with the season’s hottest golf apparel and accessory must-haves.
Whether you’re in the market for a selection of basic golf essentials or looking to bulk up your current collection of golf gear, Hibbett | City Gear’s virtual shelves are stocked with only the best from Nike, PGA TOUR, Under Armour, and Oakley.
Golf has historically been a gentleman’s game, one that comes with its own set of etiquette practices and appearance standards. In fact players in the early days of the sport, as far back as the 1800s, wore full suits on the green during their 18 holes.
Fortunately, today’s golfers have loosened their ties a bit when it comes to what’s appropriate attire on the course, though many courses still have rules about what can and can’t be worn on the grounds.
At the top of the approved dress code is almost always a collared shirt, most commonly a polo shirt. While traditional cotton, polyester, and microfiber shirts are common, golf polos crafted with performance tech materials are much more popular.
The PGA TOUR Men’s Light Blue Mini Gingham Print Short Sleeve Golf Polo Shirt, for example, features interlock knit fabrication, which improves players’ range of motion, as well as sun-protection tech to block harmful UV rays.
Other polos, like the Under Armour Men’s Golf UA Playoff 2.0 polo shirt, feature moisture-wicking fabric and anti-odor technology that helps keep players feeling fresh and cool throughout gameplay.
On the golf course, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll see players wearing your everyday basketball shorts or sweats. Depending on the time of year, and the course’s rule, full-length dress pants or knee-length dress shorts are considered appropriate bottoms. Both are traditionally worn with a flat front (pressed, crease-free) or pleated.
Polos are typically worn tucked into player’s pants or shorts, so bottoms are usually also belted.
PGA TOUR’s Active Waistband golf pants and shorts for men are best-in-class for their moisture-wicking fabrics, and UPF sun protection technologies, performance stretch materials and a comfortable expanding active waistband.
This spring, stock up on a few pairs of both.
Most golfers wear shoes made specifically for the sport when they play. These often feature rubber or plastic spikes or claw-like pods on their outsoles to help keep players’ feet firmly in place during the game.
For beginners or golfers who play infrequently, non-golf-specific shoes like athletic sneakers are acceptable substitutes at most golf courses and clubs.
Whether you opt for a traditional golf shoe with non-metal spikes or a spikeless athletic shoe, make sure your footwear will be comfortable for all 18 holes. Shop for sneakers made from leather and/or synthetic materials that will keep your feet dry and facilitate a natural range of motion. Also, ensure your shoes’ soles are textured for traction.
Pair your golf shoes with moisture-wicking socks for added comfort.
Keep your eye on the ball by eliminating distracting sun glare with a hat or visor, like Nike’s Golf Tech Visor or Legacy 91 Golf Hat. Under Armour’s Golf Headline 3.0 Cap is also a formidable choice with its UA Storm technology that repels water and pre-curved visor & structured front panels that maintain the cap’s shape. The hat’s Built-in HeatGear® sweatband also wicks away sweat to keep players cool & dry while stretch construction provides a comfortable fit.
A pair of sunglasses can also help keep your sights set on that hole-in-one (or par, at least). Keep in mind when shopping for golf-appropriate sunglasses that lenses with red or yellow tints will help with depth perception, while grey and amber colored lenses are better for balancing brightness and contrast on sunny days.
Oakley’s Flak 2.0 XL and Flack Jacket XLJ models just two of the are high-quality options available at Hibbett | City Gear.
This spring, set yourself up to be the best-looking player on the links with Hibbett | City Gear’s full assortment of essential golf apparel, accessories, and gear from some of the best names in the biz.
