Look Back at the Top 10 NBA Highlights of the 2022–2023 Season

Jun 26, 2023

This year’s NBA season was a historic one. And our list doesn’t even include the Finals victory from the Denver Nuggets — the team’s first championship in franchise history. Let’s explore some stellar NBA highlights from this standout season:

1. Reeves From Half Court

In addition to his many other bring-fans-to-their-feet plays, Austin Reeves of the L.A. Lakers also sank a half-court shot during the playoffs just a few minutes after he scored on Steph Curry with an electric, behind-the-back dribble.

2. Dončić’s Poster Dunk

Luka Dončić’s dunk against the Bucks’ Jrue Holiday was pretty phenomenal. In fact, the best thing about the play may have been the reaction of Dončić’s teammates on the bench.

3. Irving’s Three-Point at the Buzzer

When the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors went head-to-head, fans were biting their fingernails all the way to the end when Kyrie Irving’s skillful offense resulted in a three at the buzzer to win the game.

4. Morant’s Switch-Hand Dunk

In the third quarter during a close game against the New Orleans Pelicans, Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies executed a smooth dunk, effortlessly transitioning from his right to his left hand in midair.

5. Carmelo Anthony’s Retirement

“If you ain’t having fun, then there ain’t no use for you to be playing.” And have fun, he did during his 19 seasons, 10 All-Star team appearances, and three Olympic gold medals. Carmelo Anthony retired this year, and we’re sure going to miss him.

6. Jokić’s Pass Between the Legs

One of Nikola Jokić’s most ingenious plays emerged during a game against the Grizzlies when he fluidly passed the ball between his legs to hit teammate Bruce Brown for the dunk.

7. Fox’s Three-Point Buzzer-Beater

Sacramento’s De’Aaron Fox sank a midcourt three at the buzzer to clinch the win during a tied, overtime game against the Magic. For Kings fans, it doesn’t get any better than that.

8. King James’ Breaks All-Time Scoring Record

This year, LeBron James made history once again, sinking his 38,388th career point to surpass Laker predecessor Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.

9. Tatum Scores in a Sea of Red

It was pretty impressive seeing Jayson Tatum disappear into a pack of five surrounding Pelican defenders only to reappear as he went vertical to secure a two-point basket.

10. Curry Reigns as Three-Point King

No one in the NBA can make threes quite like Steph Curry. Right when you think “There’s no way that’s going in,” you hear the sharp swish of the net, and Curry has done it again. Those successful three-pointers were invaluable when it came to the Golden State Warriors gaining entry into the 2023 playoffs.

This list of our top 10 NBA highlights of the 2022–2023 season is only the tip of the iceberg. There are many more jaw-dropping plays that didn’t even make our cut.
